Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What makes Chi Upsilon Sigma National Latin Sorority, Inc. different from the other Latin sororities?

A: First and foremost, we are the first Latin sorority founded on the principles of "Womanism". Our founders believed in an organization by women with no fraternal ties. Secondly, we have expanded to twelve states, but our organization's historical foundation keeps our members linked together through our strong spiritual bond. Our members connect with sisters from all twelve states through their experiences. This keeps our sisterhood genuine.

Q: Why do CUS chapters contain fewer sisters than other organizations?

A: We educate our chapters that we prefer quality over quantity. Our founding mothers wanted the organization to have a feel of "family" for women. This is another principle in which they founded the organization. BeCUS they were first generation college students, they wanted members to feel like they had a home away from home.

Q: What can CUS bring to my campus?

A: Diversity, leadership, selection amongst Greek letter organizations, and community involvement.

Q: Why is your motto: "Wisdom through Education" so important?

A: Wisdom through education is so important beCUS we are an organization of educated and professional women. We must continue to give back and educate ourselves on issues affecting us as women in our society. With a higher percentage of women in college than men, we want to promote an organization that encompasses and supports these leaders of tomorrow. We must remember that an education can open the door to many opportunities.

Q: Do I have to become an O.W.L. in order to be part of CUS?

A: At Phi Chapter you are not required to be an O.W.L. in order to be part of CUS. The decision to be or not be an O.W.L. is entirely up to you.

Q: How active are your alumnae?

A: The alumnae of our organization stay involved through many means. For instance, they act as advisors to existing chapters, participate as board members on our national board and board of trustees, or active in their graduate chapters. Some alumnae choose to be active in a level they are able to commit due to their busy lives and schedule. All alumnae always feel as though they have a place within our organization after they finish their degree.

Q: Why should I choose CUS?

A: You should choose CUS beCUS you believe in our principles, foundation, and goals. The decision to select a Greek organization is something that should be thought about extensively; considering it is a lifetime commitment. Each Greek Organization offers different outlets for their members, thus, if CUS offers the outlet you are looking for you should research us thoroughly. It is your choice. However, we welcome you to the opportunity to get to know CUS.
