Her Favorite CUS Memory

Too many!! But I guess I will choose 3 (HA, shout-out to my LS!). First and foremost, the day that I was welcomed into this captivating sisterhood, it was the greatest feeling in the world. 2nd the first time I went to a national conference and met so many sisters and was welcomed with open arms. 3rd my first sisterhood retreat out in Jersey somewhere. I got to spend time with my LS Yasmin (N/E), met up with some Phi sisters out in the east-coast and got to really, really bond with ALL my sisters. WAIT, one more….Chapter of the year...when we won it, that was SWEET!

Why she chose CUS

I have siblings, so sisterhood or being a part of a sorority was not something that I needed, but something I still chose to do. I walked into an “eXpresso” my freshman year and I saw 8 woman from different backgrounds, age groups, and majors all bonded together by Chi Upsilon Sigma. I am now a part of the best sisterhood, and I do not regret it. Even now as an alumna, I am still very involved.

Danita gallegos

Danita was a Kinesiology/Sports Management major (with a business administration minor) in school and was a member of OWLS before she became a sister in the Summer of 2002. She currently works as the Graduate Education Coordinator/Special Programs Coordinator for Neuroscience Program at the University of Texas at the Houston Medical School.

Her Favorite CUS Memory

My favorite CUS memory was when my line sister came to visit me in Florida and spent the weekend with me and the sisters there. My other favorite CUS memory was when Lisa Reyes (AG/A) and Nicole-Lynn King (Alpha Theta/A) dropped me off at the airport to come back to Texas after 9 months in Florida. Nine months before they dropped me off I had only known their name and when they said goodbye I felt like I was leaving my two lifelong best friends. Of course we are still close but that is one CUS memory I will never forget.

Why she chose CUS

I chose CUS because of our independent foundation. I have always felt that I was a strong intelligent woman who, if need be, could make wise decisions on her own. I use my past to predict my future decisions and CUS gives you the freedom to be who you are and to be strong and confident about it. I didn’t see the need to ‘fit in’ another organization and the women of CUS and the foundation that we have prove that you can have your own voice. Also, as an owl, I grew to love that this organization shows that we are not just a chapter sisterhood but we are a NATIONAL organization. An organization who can reach out across the nation to our sisters for help and support. That quality showed me that this is not just an organization that I would be a part of while in college but a lifetime to a sisterhood.
